Week 7 - Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

While AI technologies bring innovation, they also raise ethical questions. Across the globe, AI is transforming industries and job markets. The effect on employment, particularly remote work opportunities in developing nations, is a major concern. A lot of professionals who work in customer service, writing, and design depend on these jobs to support their families. AI has the potential to displace these people and leave them jobless as it automates tasks. This change worsens economic inequality in addition to having an effect on livelihoods.

 Hiring skilled workers can have a significant positive social and economic impact, particularly in creative industries like design. For instance, spending $50 on a logo is more than just a business expense—it helps someone put food on the table and pay their bills. AI-generated designs might be quicker or less expensive, but they don't have the same human connection or wider economic benefits that come from employing people. A small gesture like preferring human labor to content created by AI can keep families and communities intact.

Everyone needs to adjust to the rapid advancement of AI, but this doesn't mean that human talent should be neglected. Finding a balance that allows AI and human labor to coexist while utilizing their respective advantages is crucial. Companies can continue to invest in human creativity and knowledge while leveraging AI to increase efficiency. By doing this, they improve the welfare of those who rely on these jobs for their survival in addition to their own personal development.
